Cafe-Pension Brandtnerhof in Schoenau a. Koenigssee is near Berchtesgaden. Schoenau a. Koenigssee is located beside the Berchtesgaden National Park, so you pretty much have to drive there from the north. It's about a 2 hr drive from the Munich Airport. Take A8 to A10 exit B160. This is a nice little town near the lake - Koenigssee.
Parking is usually not a problem except for weekends and holidays. We walk to many things but sometimes take the car. We have stayed at this pension three times: 2003, 2006 and 2009. We first found it by searching one of the many web sites for the Berchtesgaden area. Their web site is easy to understand and has an ENGLISH translated version. I like that. Family Angerer is responsive with their email, which we always use to make reservations. The accommodations are pleasant and clean. Our room was on the second floor, up the wide stairs.
They have a large breakfast room on the first floor. The breakfast buffet was generous and plentiful. There are tables and chairs outside to enjoy when the weather is good. They have wireless Internet connectivity. We used our laptop with SKYPE to call home during our stay.
The pension is located within very easy walking walking distance to the lake Koenigssee where you can enjoy a ride on the electric boats. The Eagle's Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), the thermal spring "Watzmann-Therme", the salt mine, St. Bartholomae, Mt. Jenner, the nature and outdoor baths, historic Obersalzberg and much more. In winter you can find the ski areas Jenner, Rossfeld, Hochschwarzeck, Gutshof and Gotschen (FIS Ski world cup route).
We always walk to Jenner Bahn and take a gondola car to the top. It’s a wonderful view. Once in the Spring we saw people para-gliding from the top of the mountain right down to near our pension.
Note they do NOT take credit cards so you have to pay with Euro.
