(Fadoinka) ...Once again, location reigns supreme. Since we were only staying one night, in Nuremberg, I wanted a hotel with quick access to the Hauptbahnhof, yet located within the walled Altstadt. The Deutscher Kaiser fit the bill to a tee. The hotel is located 300 meters from the train station. Exit the station and head down Bahnhofstrasse. Walk through the underground passage, crossing underneath Frauentorgraben, and you're on Königstrasse. Another few feet and the hotel is located on the right.

The hotel is an easy and leisurely 3-minute walk to the main market square (Frauenkirche). Just walk out the front door, turn right and walk down Königstrasse, passing Lorenzkirche and continue over the bridge crossing the Pegnitz river canal. Königstrasse is filled with shops and the food market stalls are also situated along the street.

I had a hard time finding affordable accommodations in Nuremberg, because a trade fair was going on. Considering this, I felt fortunate to book the Deutscher Kaiser, even though the nightly event rate was 148 euro. Normal pricing is 106 - 180 euro for a standard room and 125 - 220 for a superior Kaiserhof room. We got a mid-priced standard room. As the pictures reveal, it was a fairly typical room, but we enjoyed it greatly. The room faced the front street (Königstrasse) but the double-glazed windows completely blocked out any noise.

Rooms offer SAT TV - mini-bar - LAN/DSL connection - coffee maker - hairdryer - desk - and bathrobes.

Our bathroom included a tub/shower combination. However, the tub basin was extremely small. While you couldn't stretch out in it, it would certainly serve its purpose, even if in a minimal way.

The hotel's services include an elevator - buffet breakfast (included in price) - parking garage (8 euro/day, if available ...no reservations) or parking facilities 5 minutes away - 13 euro/day) - elevator - ironing facilities and dry cleaning services - 24-hr reception - and room service.

One of the hotel's greatest amenities is it's restaurant - Kloster Andechs "Das Wirthaus". The restaurant is attached to the hotel. However, it has a separate entrance located right outside the hotel's main door. The restaurant boasts high ceilings, lots of woodwork, several different table types and a few tables located outside. You just can't beat Andech's bier and the food and service were also excellent.

Another perk is the hotel's close proximity to the
Restaurant Helig Geist Spital. This popular restaurant serves excellent Franconian fare and is always bustling.

I would not hesitate to stay at the Deutscher Kaiser again. Our receptionist spoke excellent English, always had a smile on her face, and was always eager to talk and give us any information we needed. Great hotel in a great city! I booked the hotel on www.hotel.de.
