(Ben) ...We had dinner at a little sidewalk cafe - the Gasthof Kerschbaumer
at Markt 30 - in the main market square of Abtenau. A square that had been turned into a large Biergarten the day
before and was packed with Sunday Bier drinkers when we drove by. We both chowed down on Cordon Bleu mit Pommes
Frites and that good Kaiser Bier. I also had some Knödelsuppe and my total bill was less than $12.

Central location lakeside - Restaurant
A lovely splurge in Hallstatt! With only a one night stay, we wanted to be situated right on the lake and the Grüner
Baum provided us with a perfect location. Situated directly on the tiny, but vibrant Marktplatz, our room had a
wonderful balcony overlooking the pristine lake. The view, in all directions, was magnificent. Upon registering,
we were very warmly greeted, by name, from the owner... a lovely woman who was always smiling! The indoor restaurant
was very nice, but we opted to eat outside at the great Biergarten, situated right on the water. Food was terrific,
with fresh fish being the mainstay of the menu. We all loved this great, old hotel, with it's appropriately creaking
floors and warm, inviting ambiance.

Here's a place I highly recommend - Hotel-Restaurant Weisses Kreuz. I loved this place! Our room was a wonderful
size and the bathroom was huge. Just your basic room, but extremly comfortable and well kept. The main attraction
of the Weisses Kreuz is it's restaurant. They have an unbelievably large menu and the food is superb and extremely
reasonable in price. The restaurant was recommended to us by a friend, as a place to meet during our last trip
to Salzburg. It was certainly convenient that we were staying there as well. He told us the Weisses Kreuz is one
of the most popular restaurants, with locals, because of the great food and reasonable prices. He said that sometimes
it's hard to get a table there. It certainly did not disappoint us! The hotel is situated almost right under the
fortress. All in all a great place in Salzburg.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Radisson Altstadt. Had a very good rate at the time but would spend the extra again if
need be. Very good location, rooms very nice, with fully equipped bathrooms, heater, robes, hairdryer, very large
tub. Wonderful location. Great restaurant and breakfast room.

Located just beside the Mirabell Garten
Two restaurants - the elegant Mirabell and casual dining Bistro
It is right next to the congress hall and is, therefore, perfectly located for people attending large meetings
there. But the grace of this chain property and the quality of its kitchen were a huge surprise to many of us who
prefer small, charming hotels. And, of course, the fact that meals can be served in the garden which is part of
the park, adds to the magic of the experience. The Sheraton Salzburg is about a fifteen minute leisurely stroll
to old town, through the beautiful park and along the river.

After spending some time sightseeing, we headed back into Brand for dinner. We pulled into the parking lot of the
Brandnerhof Restaurant and debated about eating there. There were not a lot of cars in the parking lot and another
restaurant we had seen earlier had tons of cars. Roger thought the other place might be better since it was so
crowded. Finally we decided to just eat at the Brandnerhof since we were already there. I could not believe the
view from the windows when they seated us in one of their dining rooms. It was absolutely spectacular. Not only
was the view terrific, but so was the food. I just checked my notes and realized I actually wrote down the details
of our meal. Roger had beef tenderloins and I had veal. We had an extra salad with our meal and a coke and a bottle
of water. All of that cost a total of about $40 or $45. Very cheap for such an excellent dinner with terrific views.
Later Frau Bitschi told us that is the best restaurant in town. It's where she and her husband go when they go
out for a special evening.

... Excellent inn with a beautifully paneled dining room located just south of Salzburg. Large comfortable rooms.
Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Recently renovated. Good location between Berchtesgaden and Salzburg
just a few minutes from Hellbrunn Castle (trick water fountains and baroque garden). Five minute walk to small
grocery store. Nice outside terrace perfect for Brats and Bier...

...This is a family business, and when you stay there they treat you like one of the family! Clean, quiet, great
breakfast. Everything is perfect. This Gasthaus has a restaurant and a beer garden. Better yet (for us) they have
a deli that you can point to pick making your perfect light
meal...

...We drove to Lermoos by way of the Fernpass. BEAUTIFUL!! Indescribable scenery! You just have to drive it and
see for yourself. Lermoos (thanks Deenise!) is in a valley surrounded by mountains, some green & lush, some
rocky. The Zugspitze is way up there. The Pension Hochmoos is full, so we choose the Hotel Grieserhof, on the edge
of town. It is a lovely hotel, and we get a HUGE room. There's a great restaurant in the hotel...

...The weather is great today, sunny and very warm. We plan a route through the smaller towns, we are heading towards
Lermoos, Austria. We planned the last two days of our trip in this quiet little town, this is our pamper time.
We arrive in Lermoos at approximately 2pm, finding the Hotel Rustika is easy. We find the front desk and check
into our rooms, as soon as we dump our luggage Susie and I head down to the bar for a cold Bier. The rooms are
fabulous, a door in the room takes you out to the wrap around deck. This is heaven.... We decide to eat dinner
at the hotel this evening, we are all tired and need some down time. The dining room is lined with windows looking
out over the valley and the back side of the Zugspitze. The sun setting on this spectacular mountain is incredible...

(Larry)
...I first came across the Gutshof Zum Schluxen (formerly a farm called the Schluxenhof) in '96. I had read about
it as being one of King Ludwig's favorite hangouts when he would go out on his excursions through the countryside.
He in fact stayed overnight many times and his room is upstairs on the far right corner as you enter the front
door. Ben and I stopped by for dinner during the 2000 trip (try the delicious Tiroler Gröstl and Adam Bräu
Hell Bier), and I was there again for a Bierstop in '01. You might say we kind of took a liking to the place. The
Schluxen is located in the tiny out of the way village of Unterpinswang just inside the Austrian border, and a
short distance from Füssen and Reutte. Just a few farms, a church and the Schluxen, and that's it. Definitely
an off the beaten path kind of place. If you are looking for peace and quiet and like to blend in with the locals,
then you can't go wrong with the Schluxen.
(IM RW)
...We spent several nights at the Schluxen. The property appears to be a working farm with cattle, deer, horses
and rabbits. It appears that the owners have recently remodeled the hotel and restaurant. The restaurant/bar seems
to be a gathering place for locals to eat and socialize. Waking up to the sounds of cow bells as the cattle were
being moved from field to field and the haunting sounds of Coo Coos from the nearby woods was a fantastic way to
start the day. The staff was warm, friendly, and quick to help out in any way they could.
