Five rooms w/wo private bath/toilet, TV, private entrance

(Ben) ...The Haus Karin is my new favorite place to stay when visiting Rothenburg. Frau Weiss is a wonderful hostess and welcomes guests with open arms. I had an excellent single-room with lots of space, a sink and a cable TV at the foot of my bed. WC and shower in the hallway. I could see part of the wall and town buildings from my room windows. This is a very well kept home that is what every B&B should strive to be like. Warm friendly family operation. Frau Weiss or her husband will gladly pick you up at the train station and deposit you there when you need to leave.

(Karen) ...We very, very much enjoyed our stay with Karin and Hans. They were both very friendly and kind, and made us feel welcome. Her breakfast truly was "for a king" and there was so much left over that she encouraged us to make sandwiches for later in the day. Accommodations were perfect for us, as my husband and I traveled with our two adult children. She had one room with a queen sized bed for my husband and I, and a seperate room with two single beds that our son and daughter shared. We had our own private bath on the first floor. Her home was cozy and very clean, and a beautiful walk away from the walled city.

(Recommendation courtesy of Darryl & Tina Mann and Willis & Betty Miller) ...We stayed at this guesthouse in April of 2005 and found it to have nicely decorated and extremely clean rooms with private baths and it is located in a very quiet location within the Rothenburg o/d Tauber wall. Our host was not overly talkative, but friendly and informative when asked. The guesthouse was very nicely renovated and the owner took great care in keeping the building's old look and charm inside and out. She told us that the building was about 500 years old and was once a farmhouse. We thought that the rooms were very reasonably priced for Rothenburg about 23 Euro per person per night. The rate included a very basic but good European breakfast of bakery breads, jams, Nutella, butter, cheeses, meats, orange juice, tea and coffee. The beds were very comfy and our host always left us a nightly chocolate. The Guesthouse also offered free parking.

(RJKARR) ...a very very nice upscale hotel with a wonderful restaurant on the first floor. My sister & I stayed there on her first trip to Europe. She ordered fish and was totally dismayed to have it served European style, in other words, the whole fish, gills, eyeballs, bones and everything. Much to her great relief, they deboned and beheaded it for her before giving it to her. Our room was spacious and extremely comfortable. It's only about 1 block from the market square and would be a wonderful choice for anyone looking for an upscale hotel. They do have private parking a block or 2 away, but there's an extra cost for that.

(Mtcjones) ..Stayed at Tilman Riemenschneider in '95 at 160 DM after my husband asked for a better price than the quoted 190 DM (the exchange rate was not so good then). We had a large, beautiful corner room with great view, Bavarian painted furniture, tiled bath. (Less than 5 minutes to marktplatz). The restaurant served excellent food. A friend and I stayed there again in '96 on a Christmas market tour. A little pricey, but a beautiful hotel.

(BSmith8121) ..We stopped there because of Rick Steves recommendation but we were very pleased. It is a bit away from the center, in what was once a hospital, but still inside the walls. We had two rooms at the back on the 2nd (maybe it was 2½ floor) overlooking the terrace and the back of the biergarden. The rooms were spacious and nice and well kept and maintained. The one all the way in the back is the largest. There were larger rooms facing the street, more for families, and more expensive. Parking is a problem there, but we managed to find a spot up against the wall 30 feet from the hotel's back entrance, so we just left it there. The breakfast was fine and the walk to the center was not too far. I went up and walked the wall at 6:30 am -- great time to do it -- things are still quiet except for the tour busses loading up. Walking around the wall - to St. Wolfgang's church -- was exhilirating.

Joe Egri) ..500 year old building, but nicely updated while maintaining old world charm. Neatly decorated rooms, ensuite. Right under Wall. Friendly owners/staff. Nice garden with tables (for a touring break, take tea there in the afternoon). AND, a washer and dryer for that midtrip revival. Reasonable; about 125 DM, nice beakfast included.

(SPINMILLER) .. very clean, close to the center of town and run by two very nice women in their late 20's or 30's.. fun loving pair. We had a quiet room in the back on the 1st upper level that overlooked a garden and the wall that surrounds the city and where the nightwatchman made his nightly rounds.. The hotel had a small one lane road between the wall and the hotel, where we parked and there was access to the hotel from this drive.

Twelve rooms and One Apartment with shower/toilet, TV
Restaurant - Breakfast buffet

(AsbachNate) ..We stayed here 4 years ago and loved the place. Its inside the main wall and only 2 block to the town square or 2 blocks to the garden. Great rooms with just enough creaking noise yet modern enough to be comfortable. The rooms have the wood beams and light pine furniture, yet the bathrooms are all ultra modern. Great restuarant also with
outside dining.

GRAYGOOSE) ..We stayed at the Klosterstuble for 5 days over Christmas and were very happy with it..the location is great..right in the midst of everything yet away and quiet. The English speaking staff goes out of it's way to be helpful and are so very pleasant. This is a very old small family run hotel and extremly quiet and comfortable...it will be our place of residence if we ever return. We had a corner room with 2 beds, table, two chairs, fold out couch, TV and bath with shower. We were on the first (second, US) floor and the stairway is narrow and a bit steep but not bad if you are able to walk up steps. Could be a problem for those with knee problems but that is the case in so many of the old family run hotels in Europe. There is a restaurant in the hotel that serves very good Franconian and Bavarian food. The only downside to our room there was that the lighting for reading left something to be desired..

(BANAS WSF) ..We just returned from our first ever trip to Germany. We spent 2 nights in Rothenburg, at the Hotel KlosterStubel. We were very impressed with this hotel. The food was excellent - my favorite was the noodle and potato soup! The staff was fabulous - Erika is a gem, Jutta is great and we felt very welcomed there. We were lucky and had parking right in front of the hotel. We found the location in town convenient too. All in all it was a highlight of our trip. We also met some guests from PA that were quite friendly and all of us had a good time..

(RJKARR) ..I have stayed here twice. Great location, about 1 block from Rathaus and town square. Staff very friendly and helpful. They all speak excellent English. (Beautiful large white dog lives in the lobby and is very friendly) TV (I think). Rooms are very small. I had a single room the first time I stayed and while it was small, was large enough for 1 person. The second time I stayed, the room was really too small for 2 people. Has elevator. Private parking for guests. Nice restaurant downstairs. Would recommend it with the understanding that the rooms are extremely small.

Fadoinka) ..I thought it was a great place...terrific location...almost directly opposite the Criminal Museum and right down the street from the Marktplatz. The rooms are comfortable and the staff was terrific...especially the manager, who is extremely pleasant and helpful. The restaurant is a favorite of locals and has excellent food at very reasonable prices.

Brauerei-Gasthof Goldener Anker

Bad Windsheim

Rooms with shower/toilet, TV

(PatBee) ..This is a hotel where we first stayed in 1976--the Goldener Anker, in Bad Windsheim, which is about a 20-minute drive east of Rothenburg. It's well situated for daytrips to Würzburg and Nürnberg, as well as Rothenburg and other Romantic Road destinations. The 3-story City Museum (very interesting) is directly across the street, and the wonderful Mittelfranken Open-Air Museum is about a block away. It has been recently renovated and modernized and a double room with bath, color TV, and breakfast is about 90 DM. Good breakfast, nice dining room, and the BEST liver and fried onions on a bed of mashed potatoes that I have ever eaten in my life. When we first stayed here in 1976, the then-host brought us into the kitchen where he was melting lead and pouring it into molds to make lead soldiers for his son's Christmas gift. He gave two of them to us and I treasure them today--25 years later. Bad Windsheim is a spa town, with a lovely park, Casino, train station, nice shopping district, etc. Also, Storck Barracks is an Army Kaserne in Illesheim, which is about a ten-minute drive away. We go there to buy Stars and Stripes and keep up with news from the home front. All in all, the Goldener Anker is a good place to stay and go visiting all around the Romantic Road area.

(Galamil) ..The above picture is the Gasthof. We stayed in their Pension just a few blocks away. The Pension has a very nice breakfast room where we even had eggs one morning - which was a rarity in most places that we stayed. Our family of seven had dinner at the Gasthof (picture) one night and even with bier the bill was less than 100 DM. The Pension and Gasthof are owned and operated by the Munzinger family - the wife only speaks a little English but the husband (the cook) speaks fluent English. This area has a very nice relaxing atmosphere. One evening after dinner we took a walk through the nearby wheat and corn fields.

(RJKARR) ..I stayed at the Hornburg last spring and would stay there again in a heartbeat. The owners are absolutely the nicest people you would want to meet. We sat in the lobby and talked with the husband for a long time. We had just arrived in the country and were exhausted and finally had to excuse ourselves. However, you could not ask for nicer, more cordial people. They went out of their way to help us. My luggage was left behind in Chicago and they made sure that United courier knew how to get to their hotel so my luggage could be delivered. They loaned me an umbrella because it was raining and mine was in the missing luggage. The hotel is absolutely wonderful. Our room was on the first floor and overlooked the wall. At night, particularly, the view is great with the wall and towers illuminated.

(gluhwein@ptd.net) ..I've been raving about the Gasthof Butz in Rothenburg since I first went there three years ago. The price is right and the location is perfect - If you were in the building where the Rothenburg livecam is located, the Gasthof Butz is just behind the buildings to your immediate left. Believe it or not, there's a big parking lot and a bank back there behind the touristy buildings. Great breakfast and real nice people running it.

(BHICKOX3) ..It’s small but very adequate. Very clean, always! And the past two times we’ve stayed the rates for Suzie and I were very reasonable. Frau Moser’s breakfasts are also very nice, and come included in the rate. Another important reason we like to stay at the Moser’s zimmer is the close proximity to town.

(Steve - Atlanta, GA) ...The Burg is a fantastic small hotel! It is at the bottom of a small hill inside the walls of Rothenburg, convenient to everything but away from the foot traffic of tourists. We were lucky to have the Tower Suite, a huge room with a beautful view of the valley below. The other windows have a nice view of the rooftops of Rothenburg. The bathroom was very large and sparkling clean, as is the whole hotel. The hotel has an excellent breakfast buffet, with a wonderful outside seating area atop the ancient wall of Rothenburg. The staff was very friendly. We had a great stay at The Burg Hotel and recommend it highly.

(Marge) ...Rob managed to stay awake all the way to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The beautiful scenery, with all the rolling fields of yellow flowers, farms, and little towns helped. A little disoriented once we hit the outside of the town, we asked a German couple in a parking lot for directions to the hotel, and they very kindly drove in front of us all the way there. We noticed the pattern early on of how friendly and helpful many of the locals were with us. We loved Hotel Altfränkische Weinstube am Klosterhof. The rooms and hotel had loads of charm. We had flower boxes outside our window with red geraniums, and looking out we could see a hot air balloon rising over the town.

Rooms were typical, but very roomy and comfortable. Parking area available. Nice little courtyard, where one can relax with a Bier or other light refreshment. Breakfast is additional, but we found a terrific price on Expedia, which made breakfast a bargain. The young staff spoke perfect English and were extremely friendly.
