Holiday Haus - Zimmer Frei

(Larry) ...I arrived in Oberammergau after a nice leisurely drive through the Austrian Tirol. I have no reservations (shock!) but decide to try my luck anyway. Right beside the Passion Playhouse, where the buses park, are a row of Pensions and Zimmer Frei. For years I had ignored this area in favor of farms in the surrounding areas. But today is different and so I pull up to the Pension Neu, run by Anton and Penny Neu. Anton is a woodcarver with his own shop, and also participates in the Passion Play. Penny is his ex-pat Brit wife from London.

I had tried years ago to get in here but they were always full. Today I luck out and she lets me have a nice DZ (double room) with shower, and WC right outside the door, for only €20 including breakfast. (My room is on the balcony with the roses... nice view.)

I'm content, and celebrate with a couple of Löwenbräu on the balcony enjoying the beautiful sunny day.
