..Oberau is 8 km SE of the Ettal Monastery at the intersection of B2 and B23. This Gastehaus is across from the train tracks, but we never heard the trains during the night - they seemed to run only during the day. You are within walking distance to the train station and Munich is less than an hour away. Frau Hermann doesn't speak English, however, many a traveler from Texas has stayed at her establishment, only to return again and again, and she proudly boasts the gifts they have brought her depicting Texas and its heritage.

Herr Hermann does speak English and works in the office outside of the Gastehaus so you need only to ask for him (references to fine restaurants, etc.) We rented an apartment... The kitchen had a 2-burner stove, small stocked fridge, dishes, pots and pans, large toilet and shower and separate bedroom with terrace. Frau Hermann had a wonderful breakfast (great Kaiser rolls!) with the greatest view of the mountains from her breakfast room. This place was David's favorite.
