(Comments from Mary Ann) ...We originally had planned on staying in Dinkelsbühl, but the rain was coming down harder, and it had gotten quite cold, so we (with regrets) drove on, hoping to find a place for the night close-by...as it turned out, we were only 3 miles out of Rothenburg when we spotted a zimmer sign and stopped.. another great find!! We stayed in the village of Lohr... at the Gasthof Zum Ochsen.. I would call it a small hotel.. as it had a restaurant on the first floor and probably 10 rooms ...our rooms were nice size, with a bath to match, as it is still raining, and we are very happy to be able to eat in the hotel.. we are sitting there laughing and talking, and realize that no one else in the room is having any conversation... they are all looking and listening at us--- since this is such a small place, off the main road, and is filled only with locals... I realize they must get few Americans here... the host, who earlier had been on his tractor in the parking area, came over with a tray of homemade apple schnapps, wanted us to try it, as he was pretty proud of his product... I took a drink and almost lost my breath!! Our audience thought that was pretty funny.. so I took yet another drink.. that broke the ice, and from then on, glasses were raised to us, what a fun night... by the way.... did I mention our rooms were $35 a night for two, again with breakfast??
