(Excerpts from Len's Trip Report) ....Sunday
Haus Pfaff is 400 yards from Zum Sternen, and after I make sure I am at the right place, I take my bags from Cornelius'
car and bring them upstairs. My room is spacious, with two twin beds, and is decorated in pine furniture that matches
the floor and ceiling. The house is only a couple of years old. There is a TV set in a kitchen that is part of
a suite that includes, my bedroom, an adjoining bedroom with a double bed, and also a bathroom. This place is one
of the nicest I've encountered in all my travels, and is a bargain, about $18.00, including breakfast....

....Monday, What a great day! I wake at 6:00AM and cannot
fall back asleep. After laying in bed for a few minutes, I get up and dress, and sneak outside and watch the kids
walk to the bus stop to go to school. After 5 minutes, I walk back to Haus Pfaff where Frau Pfaff begins to prepare
breakfast for me. I am the only guest in the house and I have to stop her from bringing out more food. After 3
brötchen (rolls), a horseshoe shaped roll, cheese, and tea, I am stuffed. Frau Pfaff turns on the television
in the living room which houses the breakfast area and I watch CNN, CNBC, and some other English language TV, all
based in London. The easy chair is comfortable and I drift in and out of sleep. At 9:00AM I go back up to my room
and get my gear for a planned 10:00 hike....
....As I arrive at Haus Pfaff, I find CooperGunner (Greg), and his wife, Erika, eating cake and drinking coffee
at a table set up by Frau Pfaff on the driveway. She is some hostess, and if I ever have an opportunity to return
to Urach to meet Stammtisch members again, I claim first dibs on a room at Haus Pfaff....
....Wednesday, I have breakfast with CooperGunner (Greg) and his wife Erika, and Bhickox (Bill from Houston.) Gunner
lends me money and I pay my bill to Frau Pfaff, pack up, and say my good-byes. As I think about the last three
days, I find it remarkable that 30 strangers, who only know each other by their written words, would decide to
travel great distances at great expense on the chance that they would have a good time with each other. I'd bet
the farm (or in this case, the bauern) that each and every traveler felt he got more than his money's worth....

(Comments by Bill) ...The Haus Pfaff (Reinhard and Luzia Pfaff) is an absolutely beautiful home, with the new zimmer rooms being built-out by Herr Pfaff. This includes the lower level (based on 2nd level main entrance, and the area where Gunner and Erika stayed) which I did not get to see, as well as the third floor level (2nd level from the driveway main entrance) where we stayed. The walls and ceilings are all finished out in Black Forest Pine (beautiful, with mill work, tongue-in-groove work) and with hand made matching bed, tables, and armoire (clothes closets) built by Herr Pfaff out of the same Black Forest Pine.
The third floor zimmer area where we stayed included included 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bath with shower, with a hallway door to close and make private our "apartment area" which would include our bedroom, the bath and kitchen/breakfast area, which included a TV, dining table, flatware, and dishes. Our end bedroom included a large bed of two single mattresses, and a flower box balcony that overlooked the church area. The middle room (where Len stayed) had two single beds and two doors, with windows that overlooked the road and hills across the valley. The reason for the two doors in Len's room was to include the room with ours in a "family" group with one door, or to exclude the room from our "area" with another door in the main hallway with stairs. The third zimmer room next to Len's I did not see....

....Breakfast (consisting of cheese, cold cuts, fruit, soft boiled eggs, breads, juice, coffee or tea, milk, etc,
or whatever special guests wanted!! ) each morning was served at the Pfaff family table on the main entry family
floor (2nd floor), and across the Living Area room was a large screen TV with satellite service to watch your choice
of many different channels, including CNN and other English channels....
...Frau Pfaff is a lovely, gracious young active woman with four active and involved children. Her wonderful, thoughtful,
and exceptional hospitality to her zimmer guests is second to none on all our travels! Herr Pfaff is a highly talented
professional, also very active in civic affairs. He is the president of the Musikverein Urach (town band) and the
primary contact for the children's playground project....

(Comments by Gunner) ....What can we say that hasn't already been said!! Our zimmer was on the lower level and featured a stove, refrigerator, sink, cupboards, microwave, TV, and a table and chairs plus a sofa in addition to the bed. It had a small bathroom with a shower. As you already know the hospitality and breakfast was the best....
