We found the Landgasthof zum Sepperl quite by accident on our first trip to Munich. We were visiting with a fellow American while flying into Munich and told him we had no reservations, and asked his suggestions. He told us his favorite area was near the end of the S5 “finger” of the S-Bahn of Munich, so he could stay in the quiet countryside and catch the train into Munich without worrying about parking or driving the crowded city. He then gave us a copy of his Munich
U-Bahn/S-Bahn route map and suggested the roads from the Airport to get to the S-5 area (in the lower left of map or Southwest of Munich). So we pointed our VW Golf southwestward and less than one hour later, we had arrived in the SW tip area of the S5 leg of the Munich S-Bahn, and had searched for and found our very first German zimmer. As our travel luck goes, we just happened across this jewel of Bavaria, less than 1.5 km from the S5 Steinebach Bahnhof. We were extremely happy too because we could park our car in the Steinebach Bahnhof parking lot, grab the S5 for a 20 minute ride to Munich (almost anywhere), depart and walk, grab a bus or tram, and spend the day carefree of driving or parking our own car. Then, even if we stayed too long at the Beirstubbe, we could grab the S5 back to Steinebach, and “home.”

This wonderful zimmer, or Fremdenzimmer (guest room), quickly became very special to us and remains the overall favorite of Suzie and me in all our 15 trips to the area since. The Familie Kowollik (nee Familie Sepperl-Kowollik) are most gracious to all their guests. Frau Kowollik speaks a little English but otherwise all others speak only Deutsch.

Their food is absolutely marvelous. How about our early (I was the first one there) breakfast (Frühstückbüffet), to start with…

The food includes many types of fresh fruits, juices, several kinds of cheese and cold cut meats, link sausages, sliced bread, six different kinds of rolls, honey, jellies, cereals, milk, coffee, tea, and almost anything else you can name - to include eggs cooked to order. It’s all wonderful, fresh, and boundless for the heartiest of appetites. The breakfast area is beautiful, with table cloths, etc.

For dinner, the menu is considered by the local’s “in the know” as one of the best around Munich, and the separate dining room for the evening meal is larger and always full.

This wonderful place is mostly frequented by Deutschlanders, especially high corporate business types during the week, and regulars during the “get out of Munich” weekends. Anyone hoping to stay there should not plan to “walk up” and hope to find a room. Suzie and I know the Familie and we can’t do that anymore.

We think the world of the Familie Kowollik, so if you use our names, “be nice, use your best manners, and be patient” and have an outstanding time during your stay. In other words, don’t try to make things happen, just relax and let the wonderful things happen and you then just can sit back and enjoy.
