(Comments from Ben's Trip Journal) ...Today is a travel day as we begin the back leg of our journey. We are off in the rain once again passing thru Garmisch as we head west via Lermoos - Reutte - and pick up the Deutsche Alpenstraße on into our destination for the next two days - Sulzberg, Austria. This is a beautiful Alpine region with a mixed landscape of gentle hills, lush green valleys and steep mountains.

Sulzberg is a small village just off the Alpenstraße and across the border into Austria - not far from Bregenz and Lindau on the Bodensee. |

This is a beautiful farm in a beautiful remote location - owned and operated by a very friendly family. Frau Fink speaks very good English and is one of the nicest hostesses you will ever meet. This is a family of avid skiers, as evidenced by the many trophies and pictures throughout the house.
Larry and I both have nice large rooms with TVs and private showers/toilets. We also have access to a well-equipped kitchenette just outside our rooms. When planning our trips we normally split responsibilities for lodging reservations. We have an agreement that whoever makes the reservation has the choice of rooms when we arrive. I found this Bauernhof on the internet so I gladly select the large multi-bed room with the better views of the mountains.
This afternoon we decide to explore Lindau in the rain and it proves to be somewhat of a disappointment. It's Saturday, late afternoon, most of the stores and shops are closed, and there is a steady downpour. It's a struggle to get motivated to try to take some decent photographs. Your memories of a place can definitely be affected and clouded by bad weather.

This neat Altstadt has alot more to offer on clear, sunshiney weekdays when it's streets are alive... |
Back to the farm for a pause for the cause and we're off to dinner at the Gasthof Ochsen - Dorf 5 - 6934 Sulzberg. Check out the nice pictures of the Bregenzerwald on their website. Excellent restaurant... I tried my first Kürbiscremesuppe (pumpkin cream soup) here and it was lip smacking delicious.
Day Fourteen ![]()
Frühstück at the Lindenhof was a nice experience each morning with both Oswald and Marianne joining us for conversation. Herr Fink does not speak much English but his German is excellent. :-) We all made ourselves understood, laughed alot and enjoyed the brief time we had together.
After breakfast we decide on a daytrip to Bregenz and hope for better weather by the time we get there. As you can see by these photos we didn't catch a break today either. The Bodensee is still a nice sight and we make do with what comes our way.

We make the winding drive back thru Sulzberg and back onto the Deutsche Alpenstraße. Heading west today via the north shore of the Bodensee with next destination being the Schuttertal in the Black Forest...
