Still can't find anything in Munich to your liking? Why not stay in one of the suburbs of Munich or in one of the many small towns outside of Munich and take an S-bahn, U-bahn or train into Munich for the Oktoberfest or for sightseeing. On the below linked page I have listed links to several possibilities in the outlying areas around Munich along with approximate rail travel times to the Munich main train station -
Munich Accommodations (Suburbs and Outskirts)
Hotel Daniel
Sonnenstraße 5
80331 Munich
Tel - 89/548240 ~ Fax - 89/553420
Online reservation form (hotel homepage)
81 rooms - bath/shower, hair-dryer, telephone, radio and cable TV, breakfast buffet, AC
(Intexa2) ...When
we arrived by taxi, not knowing anything about the city but wanting to be close to the center of the old city,
I was dubious about whether this was a good hotel (it's a 3 star). Turns out it was a great choice. Only a half
block from the fountain that is the entrance to the pedestrian zone of shops that leads to the old city center
square. Only 3 blocks to the train station and the city tours. I paid average of Euro 100 (2007) after a convoluted
schedule of high for one day (Messe fair), very low the next, and normal the third. They did not have an AC room
available when we got there but moved us to one the next day. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Do not be afraid
to ask for new room if you don't like the one you get. I made my reservation, at the last minute, via Venere.com
after deciding on the hotel and checking several sites for the best price. Wi-Fi free in room, but somewhat weak
signal, but usable.
Hint: There is an S-Bahn train to the Munich airport -- take it if possible as the taxi was $62 (including tip
and an extra 3.50 for excess luggage) - it is a long ride.

Hotel-Pension Erika
Landwehrstraße 8
80336 Munich
Tel - 089/554327
Rooms with/without bath/shower/toilet
Centrally located - Elevator
(RJKARR) ...I have stayed a couple of times at the Erika. It's conveniently located between the train station and the Marienplatz, within easy walking distance of both. English is also spoken. It's been a few years since I've stayed there so I can't give you a current rate, but it was inexpensive. It has rooms with bath and some without. . I know it has everything from single rooms to at least a triple room, which I had once. There is no parking available, but it does have an elevator to get to the rooms. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
Hotel (Garni) Jedermann
Bayerstraße 95
80335 München
Tel - 089/543240 ~ Fax - 089/54324111
Email: hotel-jedermann@cube.net
Modern hotel garni, centrally located
Rooms with/without bath/toilet/shower, phone, radio, safe, TV
Free internet access on hallway computer for guests
(near Oktoberfest grounds)
(Tooooobah) ...My main Hotel in Munich proper is the Jedermann. I've stayed there a couple of times now.... Given the fact that they are located about a seven minute walk away from the Theresienwiese, a ten minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof and there's a street car stop right outside the front door, I don't think you can find a better situated hotel at a better price anywhere in town. The Breakfast Buffet there is fantastic too. All you can eat to boot! ...You can't beat 'em with a stick as far as I'm concerned!
(JESTER1J2D) ...I stayed in the Jedermann in December '98...a couple of blocks from the bahnhof, from where you can jump on the bus for city tours...The tram stop is right outside the door, for local transportation, which is great. Nice staff. Great room, fairly large, modern. No view. Free internet access, in the lobby. Parking extra, across the street. Nice frühstück dining room, small bar. Would I stay there again? - sure - liked it...
Hotel
(Garni) Uhland
Uhlandstraße 1
80336 Munich
Tel - 089/539277 ~ Fax - 089/531114
Email - info@hotel-uhland.de
Modern hotel, central location
Rooms with bath/toilet/shower, minibar, phone, hairdryer, TV (cable), radio
Family rooms (up to 4 beds) - Bikes available for guests
Elevator, breakfast buffet, Garage, Parking area
Ten minute walk to Hauptbahnhof
(Cathypen) ...Just returned from Munich (May 2002). Would definitely recommend Hotel (Garni) Uhland. In nice old neighborhood but close to markets, restaurants. Convenient location, 10-15 minute walk to subway, train station. Excellent reservation communications and efficient English-speaking staff. Great breakfasts included. Reasonable fee Internet access available to guests. Only consideration is our last night there was somewhat warm, and there were no fans or a/c.
(Linda & Todd) ..We recommend the Hotel Uhland in Munich. It's on Uhlandstraße near the Oktoberfest grounds. The owners are very helpful, and our window had a view of the church. With a giant duffle bag on wheels, and a backpack, we were easily able to walk from the train station. Our current guidebooks warned about the area south of the station being iffy, but that was outdated, as by 1999 it had changed to a fine neighborhood. We walked to the Waschsalon (Laundromat) and felt perfectly safe and comfortable.
(CKronenbur) ...We
stayed at the Hotel Uhland in September 2000 and would stay there again...the Oktoberfest was ½ block from
the front door and the MarienPlatz was a 15-20 minute walk with a lot of shops along the way...we parked in back
of the hotel without problems.. the room was comfortable, the breakfast good, and the hosts were very friendly.
(AMWeg) ...Large, airy
rooms - ours had a balcony. Friendly, accommodating, English-speaking staff. We loved it here. Short walk to train
station and great beer gardens. Very close to Octoberfest grounds. Welcoming breakfast room with tasty fair and
a wonderful neighborhood restaurant nearby (recommended by the desk clerk). Very quiet atmosphere on a side street
in a residential neighborhood. Off street parking included if you have a rental car.
(SPINMILLER) ...My grandson and I did not like the Uhland. It was hot, no fans or A\c. Although parking was advertised, there were only 2 spaces in the rear [occupied] and we had to park on the street which was very crowded. We had bunk bed and a shower so small one could not bend over without the door being opened. It may be that we did not get a good room, but I think we were the only people there and we stayed only one night when we had expected to stay 2. Everyone has their own preferences, but I would not stay there again. Personnel were friendly, but brusk.
(Arkgal) ...Very enjoyable and friendly hotel very near the site for Oktoberfest. We stayed during Oktoberfest 2000 - close enough to walk, yet not bothered by any of the noice and activity. This hotel is in a mansion of years past on a lovely neighborhood street. Also within walking distance of the Hauptbahnhof - about 15 minute walk. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. Internet access in a sitting room on the main floor. I would recommend and stay here again. Very clean with updated bathrooms and comfortable rooms.
(LOUGEE1043) ...we stayed at the Uhland and really enjoyed the hotel...a pretty building on a quiet residential street..free on-site parking and free loaner bikes for those who are inclined..paid about $75 and that included a full breakfast.
(Earobey) ...Having flown into Munich we had reserved a room for our first two nights. We found it to be convenient yet quiet. lt truly is a renovated mansion on a short street filled with the same. The same people you see in their website assist you at the hotel. The Owners were there on the weekend. Rates are extremely reasonable for beautiful rooms, nicely decorated with lovely drapes and sheers and nice furniture and excellent bath. They have free or very reasonable internet sevices. The breakfast room is quite attractive and has a large selection of items. There are several neighborhood restaurants they recommend and we found both we tried to be excellent. As we were leaving we even noticied an ice machine (the only one we saw in 22 days). We were so pleased our first visit that we emailed them later in our trip and reserved a room for our final night.

Rooms with/without bath/toilet/shower - nice breakfast
Five minutes to Poccistraße Ubahn station
(BavariaBen) ...Excellent little pension managed by the Meyer family - located just two blocks from Oktoberfest grounds - close to U-bahn and S-bahn stations - Laundromat and Konditorei just across the street.
Hotel-Pension Beck

Fax - 089/220925

Rooms with phone and TV, limited parking available
(Oldgybe)...Older 4-story hotel near Max Monument and the Isar River. Tram 19 is 1 block and Isatorplatz S-bahn 3 blocks. Most rooms with shower/toilet on floor. Just a few with toilet in-room. Clean and cheap. DM45 per person includes old style rolls and jam with coffee for breakfast. Very limited car parking and very congested in area and hard to find a parking place on the street. Have stayed here last 9 years, continue to stay here mostly because of loyalty as they gave me a place to stay during my first Oktoberfest visit. There are some more budget places in München, with a better breakfast, but I continue to stay here and do recommend it as a budget stay.
Pension Schmellergarten
(Garni)
Schmellerstraße 20
80337 Munich
Tel - 089/773157/764841 ~ Fax - 089/7256886
22 rooms with shower, phone
Parking area, 15 minute walk to Hauptbahnhof
Two blocks from Oktoberfest grounds
Near Poccistraße U-bahn station
(PStuyvsant) ...the "Pension Schmellergarten" is located on Schmellerstrasse, about two blocks from the fest grounds. I had previously stayed here in '98 and was lucky to nab a room by making a reservation back in February. Frau Kuhn remembers me and gives me the same EZ as before... color TV, small balcony, and facilities right outside the door, for DM75.
Hotel Laimerhof

23 rooms (3 family rooms) w/toilet/shower, phone, minibar, TV, radio/alarm clock, hair dryer
On site parking, breakfast buffet (or in room breakfast), bike rentals, city tour sales
(sherhatfield@yahoo.com)
...We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Laimer Hof. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood near Nymphenburg
Palace. It is about a 15 minute walk to the nearest metro stop. The staff was extremely friendly and went out of
their way to answer questions for us. They have a nice breakfast room where they put out a good selection of sliced
meats & cheese, breads, cereals and fruit. Just a short walk away is the Hirschgarten; a beautiful beer garden
with lots of picnic tables and food stalls.
Hotel am Markt
6 Heiliggeitstrasse
80331 Munich
Tel - 089/255014 ~ Fax - 089/224017
Email - Hotel-am-Markt.Muenchen@t-online.de
32 rooms w/wo bath/shower/toilet, TV, phone, parking available
(RJKARR) ...After getting some money from an ATM and gathering my luggage, I caught the airport bus to the main train station where I took a taxi to my hotel. I wanted to stay near the Marienplatz because I didn't want to have to walk far in the cold weather or after dark, yet I couldn't afford to stay in one of the expensive hotels. So I chose to stay at the Hotel Am Markt, which is one-half block from the Marienplatz. You couldn't ask for a more perfect location than this little hotel. The room was really tiny and very weird shaped. I practically had to stand in my luggage to get to the radiator to adjust the heat. But heck, I was in Munich and the room was clean and comfortable, though quite bare bones. Since I arrived earlier than the hotel expected, my room would not be ready for another hour. They showed me where to put my luggage until I could actually check in; remember I had arrived at the hotel around 9:30 or 10:00 a.m. I pulled out my camera equipment and headed out.
Hotel (Garni) Hahn
Landsberger Straße 117
80339 München
Tel - 089/5027037 ~ Fax - 089/504586

40 rooms (bavarian style furnishings) with shower, toilet, TV (cable), phone, hairdryer
Elevator, Parking area, Pets permitted, Bar, Breakfast buffet
(8 blocks west of train station)
(Capitals321) ...The Hanh is a very nice little hotel just west of the Hauptbahnhof. If you exit the station to the south onto Landsberger street - turn right. The hotel is near the bridge which crosses the railroad tracks to the north. Our room was decorated in traditional bavarian mode (which we loved) and we paid about $90 for a double room with private bath and a cable television. Excellent breakfast. Nice staff.
Hotel (Garni) Kriemhild
Gunterstraße 16
80639 München
Tel - 089/171117-0 ~ Fax - 089/171117-55
Email - kriemhild@camelot.de
18 rooms with private bath/shower/toilet, TV (satellite), phone, parking available
Breakfast buffet, Hotel bar, current prices available on hotel website
(Near Nymphenburg palace)
(M7727) ...the Kriemhild was very nice... we had a little trouble finding the place, as we did not have good Munich maps... but people were very kind when we stopped to ask directions. The room I had was rather large - double bed - bedside tables - lamps - extra couch and chair plus table - nice bathroom with stall shower, basin and toilet - our room was 180DM.... the other people had a smaller room for 150DM but they had a small balcony that looked out over the yard. We were on the second floor - NO lift... the breakfast was a regular full buffet, with cereals, cheeses, sausage, everything...there was a small back garden, that we looked at, but did not use.

Hotel (Garni) Amba
Arnulfstraße 20
80335 München
Tel - 089/545140 ~ Fax - 089/54514555
Email - info@Hotel-Amba.de
86 rooms with/without shower, radio, bath/toilet, TV
Restaurant, coffee bar, parking available, porter service to train station
Across street from Hauptbahnhof
(Billmelk) ...I'd like
to add that we were very impressed with this hotel, not so much for the ambiance, but for the room size and the
unbeatable location directly across the street from the main train station. Our room (#412) was incredibly quiet,
spacious and had a bathroom the size of our entire room at the hotel we stayed at in Mittenwald. The rooms have
soundproof windows, so train noise is not a problem. This is the first European hotel we've stayed in that actually
has more non-smoking rooms than smoking rooms. Breakfast was included with the room and consisted of the usual
German fare; meat, cheese, bread, jam, cereal, juice and several warm beverages. We've booked this hotel again
for a return trip ..because we'll be traveling by train, and the location is ideal.
(AOConn1) ...My sisters
and I stayed at the Hotel Amba in September. I chose it for one really good reason: I couldn't find anything else
since we were going for Oktoberfest. While it's defintely not the most picturesque place I've ever stayed, the
location (right across the street from the HBH) is very convenient and the hotel has all the amenities you need.
We had a triple room with a shower and the full breakfast was very good. I can't remember exactly how much it cost,
but it wasn't cheap due to Oktoberfest. My overall impression? Low on charm, high on convenience.
(THELROSE) ...The Amba has been redone in the past few years. Some of the rooms are very odd shaped, but all very clean and comfortable. The breakfast room was nice with a very good selection. We always walked to Marienplatz from there as we are avid walkers. It's about ½ hour walk. One good thing is that the Panorama Tour office is just a few doors up from the Amba. Very convenient for 1st time visitors to arrive by train, get to hotel, book a tour and then the Hertie Dept. Store on the opposite corner. The bus from the airport stops almost directly across from the hotel. When you walk out the front door and turn right you can go about 3-4 blocks and there is a very lovely beer garden there on the same side - the Augustiner. It's a lovely large park like setting.

Tel - 089/4802981 ~ Fax - 089/484137

Elevator, Hotelsafe, Restaurant, Bar, Clothes washing service
South of Deutsches Museum between Kolumbusplatz and Rosenheimer Platz
Closest Ubahn stations - Kolumbusplatz and Fraunhoferstraße
(SenSate147) ...Der Hotel Prinz icht wunderbar! We really enjoyed this little
hotel just off of Regerplatz near Rosenheimerplatz. The service was flawless, the suite was modern and yet quaint
as well looking out onto Poepplestrasse und Hochstrasse, and we just loved it!
Acanthus
(Garni)
An der Hauptfeuerwache 14 (Blumenstrasse 40)
80331 München
Tel - 089/231880 ~ Fax - 089/2607364
Rooms with bath/shower/toilet, TV, phone, minibar
Garage, Hotel safe, Hotel bar
(Mtcjones) ... In early
May of 1995.. spent 2 nights in the Acanthus Hotel (indeed charming with a warm, friendly staff). The small hotel
(36 rooms) is sandwiched between other buidlings in the middle of a block on Blumenstrasse, not far from the bahnhof
and within easy walking distance of the Marienplatz and other attractions. The u-bahn Sendlinger-Tor is 50 meters
away. We stayed in "Alba-Rose" rooms with flowered wallpapers & fabrics, an antique writing desk
in one, antique chest in another for 190 DM (each room) which includes an especially nice, large breakfast for
such a small hotel. The tiled bathrooms were spotless, small, but adequate; beds comfortable with down pillows
and comforters. There is a tiny, broom-closet size elevator which holds two people with two large suitcases. We
had to take turns going up. There are less expensive rooms available in the "Rustikana" style--pastel
fabrics and modern furniture. All rooms are a bit more expensive today. There is no restaurant, but a charming
bar/breakfast room next to the small lobby. The Acanthus accepts all major credit cards. We plan to stay there
the next time we go.
(THELROSE) ... The Acanthus is across the Sendlinger-Tor-Platz, just by Herzog Wilhelm Platz. You come out of the hotel and make a right and go to Sendlinger Straße and in less than a 10 minute walk takes you to Marienplatz. Sendlinger Straße is a very nice shopping area. The price for the Karen Brown recommended rooms was DM 195-290, but that is only on one floor. All the other rooms are less expensive, done up in the Danish Modern type decor which would be just as fine. We just stayed there last year and recommended it to friends for their October trip. Was ideal for us. We paid DM 210. Have never had a nicer breakfast buffet anywhere in Germany.

96 rooms with Bath/shower/toilet, Phone, TV, Minibar, Radio, Safe, Hairdryer
Restaurant, Hotel bar, Parking area or Garage, Elevator
(just south of train station)
(BANAS WSF) ..Our stay at the Germania was nice. They are a few blocks from the main train staion. Our room happened to face the street and that was our only complaint. Until traffic died down we heard the noise but being tired we really didn't mind so much. The room was clean and nice, breakfast included. They have a garage for parking- I believe was 10 DM per night. For 2 persons we paid 180 DM per night. The staff was friendly, spoke English and helpful with directions. I would stay there again.

Breakfast buffet, indoor swimming pool, sauna, steambath and physical fitness room
Phone, Cable TV, Radio, Hair-dryer, Mini-bar
Apartments available for long term stays
(DWilhem) ...We would like to recommend the Hotel am Moosfeld on the outskirts of Munich. It is in the suburb of Trudering (very near the old airport) near the S5 line with a station on the U2 (at the Am Moosfeld stop) which is about 600 yards away. We have stayed in this Hotel sixteen (16) times since 1987 and have always enjoyed the hospitality of Herr Bredenfeld, the owner. In fact now we are treated as family, not guests, which is a wonderful experience. The hotel is located in a mix of high tech businesses and residential homes and apartments. In fact the part of the street that the Hotel is on is 95% residential. The Hotel has typical clean double and single rooms, a large breakfast room and a small basement restaurant and bar. Herr Bredenfeld built a guest house next to the hotel with large bedrooms, sitting room and full baths. The guest house contains an indoor pool and exercise room/sauna, etc also available to the Hotel guests. Herr Bredenfeld owned a beer garden, which is about 5 miles away, but recently sold it to a wonderful gentleman (directions are supplied by reception). The breakfast spread is bountiful, with a large selection of breads, hot and cold items, etc., and Herr Bredenfeld is always there to greet the guests. We may sound like we work for the Hotel with this glowing report, but we don't. It is such a pleasant place to stay and we usually rent a car and they have plenty of garage parking (charge) and outside parking...
City Partner Adria
Liebigstrasse 8a

43 rooms with bath/shower/toilet, TV, minibar, hairdryer
Elevator, breakfast buffet, laundry service, room service
(Radicaldeparture)
...I've stayed in the Hotel Adria twice and found it to be a really nice, comfortable stay. It's in the Lehel district
so it's nice and quiet, but a quick walk/subway trip to Maximillian Str. and just around the corner from the park.
The breakfast is great, no curfew and the staff is very helpful.

breakfast is wonderful at this Hotel. Great place to stay if you want to be in walking distance of Munich City.

Rooms with phone, bath/toilet/shower, radio, TV (cable), minibar, hairdryer
Restaurant, Hotel bar, fitness center, underground garage
(just around the corner from the Hofbräuhaus)
(Fadoinka) ...Terrific
location near the Marienplatz and only steps from the Hofbräuhaus. Rather basic rooms, but very comfortable.
Fabulous full breakfast buffet complete with Champagne. Cozy little bar with great Ayinger bier. Full concierge
service. Great hotel in a great location!
(Steve - Atlanta, GA) ...The Platzl has maybe the best location for a tourist in Munich. It is convenient to everything and has some very good restaurants and pubs all around it. It is also right next to the Hofbrauhaus Beergarden, which makes for an easy trip back to the room! :) The rooms are perfectly fine, but not luxurious. The breakfast buffet is one of the best in Europe, and is usually included in the price of the room. This can be a real money saver, not only for the cost of the breakfast, but you'll eat so much, you won't need lunch! One drawback - Rooms facing the inside courtyard pick up a lot of noise from the restaurant (back door) and delivery trucks. If you open your windows, beware that there can be some noise.

(Fadoinka) ...Very
elegant hotel in prime location at Karlsplatz. Lovely rooms with marble bathrooms and all amenities. Very gracious
and helpful staff. One of the top restaurants in Munich with lovely views. Gorgeous public areas and a very pretty
piano bar. Located about 3-4 blocks from the Hauptbahnhof and around the corner from a pedestrian street with loads
of shops and cafes in and around this area. Only a person of "bad humor" would not enjoy this treasure.
A top choice!

stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, which was the former Hotel Rapheal. This hotel has the nicest and most luxurious
bathrooms of any hotel I have ever stayed at. The hotel itself was first class all the way.

Cable TV, video, radio, phone, minibar, hairdryer, air conditioning
Restaurants, Car rental desk, Garage, Swimming pool, Sauna, Hairdresser, Boutiques
Located near Deutsches Museum - Rail links to airport and subway system
(Kypar) ..I stayed at the Forum Hotel during Oktoberfest. I'm not too familiar
with a lot of other hotels in Munich, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Forum. It's just a block or two
from the Isar River east of the Deutsches Museum, and a short walk to the Marienplatz. Make sure you get a room
facing towards the West giving you a view of the city - the 11th floor and up are good choices. You can make a
reservation through Hotel Intercontinental here the states, but it's a good idea to call the hotel directly and
confirm. If you don't speak German, all the staff speak english. The Forum seems to attract more of business cliental,
and the hotel has all the modern amenities (including a large indoor pool) of a Hilton or Hyatt here in the states.
Underground parking is also available. Güte Reiße! Kyle
