Although it was our fifth time visiting Germany, it was our first time to stay in Oberammergau. We found the web site of Dedler House by simple web search. I found their web site very easy to comprehend, especially since they have an ENGLISH version!. The Haertle family also has email, which I prefer to make hotel/pension reservations. Birgitta and Awald Haertle spoke enough English to ensure we never had any trouble communicating with them. We found their room rates very reasonable.

Dedler House is located in a very easy to find location. By car, From Munich, take A95 south to B2 Oberau, B23 north to Oberammergau, then right onto Ettaler Strasse.

The rooms are very clean and tidy. We stayed in a double room on the second floor (no elevator).

Downstairs there is a very nice breakfast room. Also downstairs is Awald Haertle's wood working store (Holzschnitzerei). He has some very nice woodwork products for sale at very reasonable prices. My wife bought a few trinkets while we were there. They also provide an additional 10% off to guests who stay in the pension.

They have wireless Internet connectivity from the rooms that worked well. We used our laptop with SKYPE to call home during our stay.

Birgitta Haertle handled the email correspondence to us. Her English was very good. We arrived on Christmas Eve, and she had several small bottles of Henkel Trocken (Dry sec) for us in our room, along with a nice Christmas greeting card. Because it was the Christmas holiday we were concerned about where we might eat, thinking some restaurants might be closed. Birgitta recommended the Hotel Boeld around the corner.

Birgitta recommended that on Christmas day, we have dinner at Zauberstub'n Magic Restaurant. She called for us and made the reservation, as we didn't have a telephone. Owner Vladimir Zerebni is a very good magician and he comes around to every table to do his magic. We found the food there to be extremely good. We had the Viennese schnitzel and the deer steak. The restaurant experience was really great in all ways. Children are especially catered to as we saw the kids receive a toy truck with ice cream in it for dessert.

Birgitta recommended that on Christmas day, we have Our experience in Oberammergau was good in all ways. We had a white Christmas, great pension hosts, and two great restaurant experiences.
