What are your favorites relating to travel to and in Germany?

(PatBee)

Favorite Airline to Germany: We use Delta because we charge everything on our Delta Skymiles (AMEX) card, earn Frequent Flyer points, and upgrade to Business Class
Favorite Rental Car Company:
Have always used Kemwel for great price and good cars
Favorite Germany Travel book:
Probably Rick Steves, but personally I'd rather find interesting sites on my ADAC atlas or by searching the web--or by perusing my HB Bild Atlases, marvelous travel publications printed in Germany (mostly for Germans)
Favorite German foods:
Käsespätzle, Jägerschnitzle, Schwarzbröt, Gulasch
Favorite German refreshments:
Moselwein (Auslese oder Spätlese) and Ritter Bars
Favorite areas to visit:
All of them
Favorite large city:
Probably München
Favorite small town:
Can't choose from so many
Favorite museum:
ZAM goofy museum in Munich, all open-air museums, Berta Hummel Museum in Massing, GartenZwerg Museum in Gräfenroda
Favorite accommodations -
Just about any Zimmer Frei or Ferienwohnung we've ever stayed at. Bottom line is that no matter where you go, you'll find a SPECIAL place, food, museum, restaurant, hotel, gasthaus, etc. I'm convinced that everywhere has its own unique charms and attractions.

Favorite Airline to Germany: I always fly CO or NW because of my frequent flyer program, but would love to fly Lufthansa someday
Favorite Rental Car Company:
Auto-Europe
Favorite Germany Travel book:
Frommer because it's written for cheap folks like me. Used to be "Let's Go Europe", but I'm too old and delicate for hostels and camping now
Favorite German foods:
I like the Würsts best but also enjoy Gulaschsuppe, Jägerschnitzel, Spätzle, Pommes frites, McRib, Pfaffenküchen, Coco Mandel candy, semmelbrot, Geschnetzeltes Zigeuner Art and Bauernschmaus
Favorite German refreshments:
Weissbier, Fanta, beer with lemon or cherry juice
Favorite areas to visit:
Bavaria and Mosel
Favorite large city:
München - Great food, history, culture, museums, excellent transportation, best beers, Viktuelienmarkt, Rathaus, Bayern-München soccer paraphernalia and the creepy, but fascinating Hauptbahnhof
Favorite small town:
Landsberg am Lech and tiny Hohenfürch, but the greatest spot on earth is Berchtesgaden
Favorite museum:
Deutsches Museum
Favorite accommodations -
Eurener Hof in Trier. I haven't been there in ten years but it was really cosy when I was last there. Great food, indoor pool, rustic and tasteful rooms, quiet.
Rothenburg o.d.T.:
I love this place. Gets a bit full of tourists, but at night you can feel like you went back in time as you walk the old side streets and the city wall. Stay at the Gasthof Butz, right near the main square. The Medieval Torture Museum is great as is the Nightwatchman tour with George. Buy your souvenirs elsewhere though. Prices are jacked-up for all those tour busses.
Bavaria:
I most enjoy the areas bordering Austria - Garmisch, Füssen, Berchtesgaden. My wife and I got a perverse thrill crossing back and forth over the border back in the pre-EU days. The Kloster at Ettal is unbelievable when covered in snow.
Rhine/Mosel:
On the Rhine, I love parking the car in Rüdesheim, taking the KD boat trip down (up) to Koblenz and then returning along the river by train. St. Goar has fantastic views. But I prefer the Mosel to the Rhine. Every town has great little wine shops, usually with free tasting. The Mosel is more tranquil. Trier's Roman ruins also fascinates me.
Others:
My last day in Germany usually involves a long visit to the Julius Meinl, Spar or Aldi where I load up on stuff to take home. Hela ketchup (4 different flavors), Ritter and Milka chocolates, Kinderüberashung (chocolate eggs with toys inside - deemed too dangerous for American kids who would accidently eat the toy), cans of Gulaschsuppe and Weissbier, fa deodorant (the black can of men's "Sport" deodorant smells better than cologne), Kräutersalz (salt with 7 spices in it), paprika chips and pine incense for our smokers.
Any other favorites:
Eating that huge buffet breakfast at the Jedermann hotel in München (filling my pockets with rolls for lunch) and just wandering by the stores in downtown Berchtesgaden at night with the snow coming down.
