Comfortable rooms with shower, WC, Hairdryer, TV, radio and Minibar

(Gary and Debby Jones, Georgetown, Texas) ..We arrived at our next destination, Haus Reichl, in suburban Salzburg, located at the end of a lane off the Moosstrasse. Franziska Reichl greeted us and showed us to our two Zimmer up one flight of stairs. Our room overlooked the front of the house where there is a large meadow. We saw several small deer playing in the lush green grass. For dinner, we followed Frau Reichl's suggestion and went to the Gasthof Reiterhof two km south of her place down the Moosstrasse. The dining room was interesting, situated on the second floor, overlooking a horse riding ring. While we ate, a trainer led a couple of horses through their paces.

118 rooms and suites
Centrally located on the Salzach

(Steve-Atlanta, GA) ..We found a great rate on the internet for the Sacher in Salzburg. Normally, it would of been a little out of our price range, but checking with their web site and e-mail directly landed us a good price. WOW! What a hotel! The view across the river to old town Salzburg is postcard perfect. The room was just lovely. Of course, having the world famous Sacher torte at the Cafe was great and even the Grill there was not too expensive (Lamb for $13.00). Overall, the lap of luxury.

(BRobinsE) ..The Sacher is a grand hotel with grace and wonderful food, located on the water but across the river from the old city. If you prefer more space, a place to park a rental car, and more imaginative cuisine, the Sacher is your place. Both the Sacher and the Goldener Hirsch are favorites of European travelers who go to Salzburg often.

69 rooms with full bath, phone, TV, minibar, air-conditioning

(Italy is Heaven) ...we've stayed at the Goldener Hirsch several times. It's one of our favorite hotels in the world (a 5 STAR HOTEL for a 3 star price). If you need a car and driver ask the concierge to hire "Wolfgang" for you - he's terrific and knows everyone... he drove us to the salt mines and got us placed at the front of the line. He also got the caretaker to unlock the entrance to Hitler's bunkers even though it was closed for the season. The Goldener Hirsch is fabulous, situated in the old district, wonderful staff, great rooms with feather comforters. Runs around $200 per night but worth every penny.

(BRobinsE) ..The Goldener Hirsch is a small hotel in the heart of the old city. It is charming. If tiny boutique hotels are your thing, you will find the Goldener to be perfection. I had the most wonderful peach ice tea at the Goldener Hirsch, on a day that must have been close to 100 degrees F. The bartender brought us outrageous pastry snacks on the house and invited us to sit and cool down for as long as we liked... such a classy place.

(DTrythall) ...Here's another vote for the Goldener Hirsch. We stayed there in 1996 and our HUGE and very elegant room was $387 a night. It's consistently rated by Conde Naste Traveler as one of the top hotels in the world. We splurged and went for it - and other than for the brief moment when the bill was paid, have never regretted it.

(Earobey) ..very pleased with Goldenen Ente (golden duck). About a two minute walk to Mozartplatz and right in old town. We paid a little less than $100 in June, 2000 for a double. The building itself is over 500 years old (renovated of course, with elevator). Excellent, extensive breakfast.

(CAS212) ...We stayed at the Zur Goldenen Ente, right in the heart of the old part of the city. It was a lovely old hotel, with a rather large room & an extra bed for our teenage son. Breakfast each morning was included. I would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone. We paid about $120 for the three of us per night and we had an absolutely lovely room. This charming hotel is in the very heart of ?old town? and is purported to be over 500 years old. The rooms have the kind of windows that open out onto the pedestrian street below and you can hear the hustle and bustle of German, Austrian, and French tourists passing by below. This was perfection. (Trip Report)

(SGICOLLEEN) ...Stayed at the Golden Ente a few years ago. The hotel personnel were very kind. Room rates were very reasonable and included breakfast. The nearby church bells (in the middle of the night) were beautiful but loud.

A family operated hotel centrally located in the Altstadt
All rooms with bath/shower, toilette, minibar, phone, TV, radio, hairdryer

(m. peterson) ...We stayed for three nights in the Weisse Taube hotel in Salzburg recently. It was an all-around enjoyable experience. The family-owners were pleasant and agreeable, and unfailingly cheerful at the breakfasts, which they personally served. They helped us get tickets, gave some sightseeing advice and good recommendations. The room was clean and comfortable, and they accommodated our young son with a roll-away bed set up in our "sitting room" area. We'd go back!

(Banditdog0) ..A couple of years ago we stayed at the Weisse Taube in Salzburg. It was just fine - nice accommodations, friendly people, reasonable price, right in the Altstadt. I'd stay there again.

Elevator, free internet access, parking garages
Restaurant, winebar, outdoor restaurant

(Fadoinka) ..This hotel is located at the one end of the Getreidegasse, almost next door to the Goldener Hirsch Hotel. We unloaded in front of the Goldener Hirsch and then had to park the van in underground parking about 2 blocks away. Our rooms were typical Austrian and had very nice, large bathrooms. I liked the Blaue Gans because of it's superb location and it was certainly clean and quite comfortable. The front desk personnel were extremely friendly and helpful...always smiling. The main attraction of the Blaue Gans is it's location, plus it does offer fairly reasonable rates.

(JESTER1J2D) ..We stayed at the "Blue Goose" (Blau Gans) and liked it. Room was kind of basic modern, nothing fancy. Looked like the floor was recently re-done and there were no "straight lines" but very functional. It was on 4th floor and overlooked the shopping street that is so highly prized by the shoppers of the world. Overlooking the street was kind of noisy especially in the hours around 5, 6, 7 AM when there were trucks moving and making deliveries and picking up the trash. Lobby area was interesting and modern. Interesting because there are entries from front and back. The front puts you out among the shoppers and the back way is a tunnel like affair that exits to a main street on the other side of the building. Hotel restaurant was good, a little high priced though. The people were very friendly and helpful.

Rooms (all non-smoking) with bath/shower, toilet, phone, TV
Buffet breakfast

(Fadoinka) ...here's a place I highly recommend - Hotel-Restaurant Weisses Kreuz. I loved this place! Our room was a wonderful size and the bathroom was huge. Just your basic room, but extremly comfortable and well kept. The main attraction of the Weisses Kreuz is it's restaurant. They have an unbelievably large menu and the food is superb and extremely reasonable in price. The restaurant was recommended to us by a friend, as a place to meet during our last trip to Salzburg. It was certainly convenient that we were staying there as well. He told us the Weisses Kreuz is one of the most popular restaurants, with locals, because of the great food and reasonable prices. He said that sometimes it's hard to get a table there. It certainly did not disappoint us! The hotel is situated almost right under the fortress. All in all a great place in Salzburg.

(IM RW) ...We found the Hotel-Restraurant Weisses Kreuz to be charming, convenient and (from our limited experience) reasonably priced. We had a bright and airy corner room with views out two sides over the rooftops of Salzburg and overlooking the giant Chess board in the square below. The room was spotlessly clean, of ample size for the two of us and all of the "stuff" we were lugging around, and had a spotless bath/shower. The staff was warm and friendly.

62 rooms furnished with antiques - with bath/shower, toilet, phone, TV, hairdryer, minibar, AC
Room service, laundry service, restaurant, bar and lounge, buffet breakfast

(CQUID) ...I thoroughly enjoyed the Radisson Altstadt. Had a very good rate at the time but would spend the extra again if need be. Very good location, rooms very nice, with fully equipped bathrooms, heater, robes, hairdryer, very large tub. Wonderful location. Great restaurant and breakfast room.

(Cfisher911) ...stayed at the Salzburg Radisson Altstadt right in the heart of Old Town on Judengasse. I don't remember if we had a standard or deluxe room but it was very nice, overlooking the river with a wonderful, marble bath. The hotel staff was nice, the breakfast was great and you couldn't beat the location!

(Fadoinka) ...this luxury hotel is a real treat! I had always wanted to stay here and was certainly not disappointed. The hotel staff is all one would expect from a 5-star hotel and the property is beautifully appointed. Our room overlooked the Judengasse and was unbelievably large with full sitting area, tons of closet/storage space, a huge bathroom, and air-conditioning. We didn't eat breakfast here, so I can't comment on the food, but the full-service bar was wonderful. We were treated like royalty for 149.50? in a superior room. Loved it!

Three restaurants, parking area/garage

(Cfisher911) ...I have stayed at The Elefant and it was great! Fantastic location right in the center of old town on a quiet little street. Very nice, moderately priced and very nice, friendly staff. Great breakfast buffet! The church bells rang off and on all night but maybe you hear them all over town. You do get used to them. Spending a little more to stay in the old town is worth it. It's a beautiful area and I hope to get back there someday.

(CQUID) ...Wonderful Hotel - a little outside Salzburg but public bus right outside the door, about a ten minute ride to old town. Wonderful service and very nice rooms facing the river. There is a lot of history in that hotel. Was an old hunting lodge.

Located just beside the Mirabell Garten
All rooms and suites with bath/toilet, cable TV, radio, minibar, voice mail, hairdryer, safe
Restaurants, hotel bar, parking garage, elevator, fitness room, sauna

(BRobinsE) ...It is right next to the congress hall and is, therefore, perfectly located for people attending large meetings there. But the grace of this chain property and the quality of its kitchen were a huge surprise to many of us who prefer small, charming hotels. And, of course, the fact that meals can be served in the garden which is part of the park, adds to the magic of the experience. The Sheraton Salzburg is about a fifteen minute leisurely stroll to old town, through the beautiful park and along the river.

Hotel Schwarzes Rössl

(Open 1 Jul - 30 Sep)
Fifty rooms w/o bath/toilet (in hall), phone
Centrally located in historical building, Parking garage available

(Jim in Ohio) ...Our room was very clean with super nice furniture. Floors a bit creaky but that only added to the charm of the place. Most rooms are without a private bathroom but I believe there are a few available with bath. Located nearby the Marktplatz and the Holy Trinity church. The Rössl only rents rooms from July to September and becomes student residences the rest of the year. This was a great budget find for us...

Amadeus

26 rooms with bath/shower/toilet, TV, Phone, Hairdryer, Radio
Centrally located near the Mirabell gardens and Mozart Museum
Elevator, Garage nearby, Bar and Lounge

(Polarbare3) ...the Amadeus in Salzburg is a very nice hotel about two blocks from the river and about three blocks from most sights. I had a room that overlooked a beautiful cemetery in the rear of the building. The hotel is located on Linzergasse which also has some excellent restaurants and shops. Compared to the prices of some of the other hotels in the area the Amadeus was a real bargain.

Elevator

(JNelson363) ...If you need another suggestion for a hotel, I would recommend Hotel Trumer Stube. It is a three minute walk to old town, is located on a quiet street, and there is street parking nearby. The hotel is recommended by Rick Steves and Lonely Planet travel guides. It cost AS 1190 ($81) and includes breakfast. We had a car and just parked it (with a free permit from the hotel) for three days because major tourist sites are within easy walking distance. Salzburg is a beautiful city.

Centrally located, can drive to hotel at any time

(Fadoinka) ...this wonderful little hotel is located on an ancient street in Salzburg, almost directly across the street from Zur Goldenen Ente Hotel and Restaurant (a favorite of many). Paul and Patricia's room was nicely decorated with lovely hand-painted furniture. Their bathroom was shower only, but just fine. They loved the location and the front desk personnel were very friendly. At 65? per night, it's a great find, especially considering the location.
