After 42 nights in Europe, our family
of 4 (children ages 4 & 6) were more than happy to settle in for three nights along the beautiful and peaceful
Mosel River. We chose Weingut Zentius in the sleepy town of Longuich based on my dad’s recommendation. Their website
is currently under construction - http://www.weingut-zentius.de/
Frau Zentius speaks very little English. Her daughter’s boyfriend came to explain some basic features of our apartment
since we speak little German – though we try! The apartment was spotless and seemed brand-new. The balcony overlooked
the vineyards and the Mosel River. The yard bordered the Mosel bike path. Each morning, I went through Zentius’
direct gate onto the path for a run.

The adult bed was near the balcony and part of the living space. Our children had a small room near the rear of the apartment with a twin and convertible sofa bed. The kitchen was stocked with near-new cookware, dishes, etc… |

There was a fridge at the bottom of the stairs filled with their house-made wine. You simply picked a bottle to take back to your room and paid when checking out. The wine was fantastic! |
Our apartment cost 60 Euro per night. I believe it would be less for fewer people. Zentius also had standard pension rooms that included breakfast. I would stay here again when visiting the Mosel. I liked being away from the touristy towns and enjoyed the view from the balcony immensely. We could watch the tractors leave from under our balcony up to the steep vineyards. I also liked that the larger bustling town of Trier was only 10 km away.
The town of Longuich is not touristy but has a lot of character. We could walk across the whole town where we found
a couple parks, a Norma grocery with attached bakery (yum), and a few restaurants. We ate at Alte Burg one evening
just up the street from Zentius and enjoyed the food in what was an old castle (I think).

We enjoyed the Mosel and hope to return with older children in the future. Next time we’ll be sure to rent bikes
to ride along the river!
