(PStuyvsant) ...My next stop after Rothenburg (in 2005) was the small village of Walchsee in the Austrian Tirol. A picturesque little town located on a beautiful glacial lake, surrounded by green valleys and mountains. My accommodations were at the Bauernhof "Welzenhof", and I really lucked out on this one. Located about 3 km outside of town, surrounded by gently rolling hills, it is indeed a winner. I had a large Doppelzimmer with pine paneling, shower/toilet and a large balcony which overlooks a full size golf course nearby. Frau Greiderer speaks perfect English and is an excellent host. The price (for one person in a double room).... only €25 per day. Ideal location for day tripping. Reit im Winkl is just 10km, and Kitzbühel 30km. There is also an excellent Sommerrodelbahn about 5km from the farm. I made sure to pay them all a visit.
